Dream Stealers Stink!

I’m seriously ticked off.

Here’s why:

I had a conversation yesterday with a fellow named Anthony. He explained to me how up until very recently, he really wanted to get into the Real Estate business and take advantage of the unique opportunity we have. In particular he wanted to get into foreclosures. Who could blame him for being excited?

He went on to tell me about a conversation he just recently had with an agent who, in a very short period of time, utterly convinced him that there was NO WAY he could make money on foreclosures. The Realtor was knowingly or unknowingly stealing Anthony’s dream. The Realtor went on to say, that because she has ‘been in the business for 15 years’ she is an expert and that he would be wise to heed her warning. Sadly, Anthony let her scare him into believing her.

Would you?

If you think about it, that agent did herself, Anthony, the local community, and the real estate market as a whole, a real disservice because there is a fortune to be made in foreclosures right now, whether she knows it or not. The proof is overwhelming. The good that would have come from his potential success would have had a ripple effect into the community in numerous ways. Sadly, it won’t be happening.

What gets my blood boiling is that agent was flat wrong and yet was able to convince Anthony that there was no opportunity. You can bet that during our conversation I gave it my all to turn him back around and get him back on the track, but it was too late. He was convinced and there was no changing his mind.

Why was the agent so willing to convince Anthony of something so irrefutably wrong? I have a theory that I’ll share in a moment, but I can’t help wonder what the agent’s been doing for the last 15 years if she sees no opportunity to buy right and do deals in THIS market.

Here’s what I’ve noticed over the years. When you and I are in a position where we are looking for guidance or advice, unfortunately we often ask a person who, when given the opportunity, finds some odd pleasure (conscious or subconscious) in imposing their will on us, rather than truly helping us in a positive way.

Like when someone tells you, “you can’t do that” – even when they’re dead wrong and perhaps worse, have no idea what they’re talking about.

Have you ever noticed that?

What I’ve discovered is sometimes when you ask for guidance or advice from someone who either isn’t sure of what you’re asking or simply doesn’t know the answer, they might say “you can’t do that” because it allows them to maintain their position of authority over you… which is much more comfortable than admitting they don’t know.

Think about it. If this person were to say, “Gee, I’m not sure” or “I don’t know anything about it”, or “I’ve never done it, so I’m not one to offer advice”, or “I tried and it didn’t work for me”, they would give up their position of authority over you. In fact, they’d come down to “your level” and really be more like a peer than the authority they feel like they should be. This is not a comfortable place for this type of person.

So why do they feed you B.S. rather than just be honest and candid? It’s because their ego or self esteem is so fragile that the mere thought of you finding out they don’t know the “answer” and maybe they aren’t as smart or experienced as they’ve presented themselves to be, is overwhelming to them.

Their desire to be seen as the brilliant authority overrides their desire to be honest and humble.

You know what I mean?

I see this as a low brow form of manipulation and trickery. Is it dishonest? I don’t know. I think it comes so naturally for some folks, that it’s hard to call it honest or dishonest. I also believe that, for some, it is subconscious.

Negativity is all around us in our lives and so there are people ALL AROUND YOU who are like this, to the core, and who will happily ruin your day or, worse, steal your dream if you let them.

They come in all shapes and sizes with all sorts of backgrounds and professions. They’re all around you – all the time. Family and friends included!

Your ability to succeed in anything, will come from your ability to take episodes like Anthony’s in strides or, better, completely tune it out!

How about the media? That’s a perfect example of what I’m talking about on a LARGE scale.

The media, if you let it, will convince you that the economy is in the toilet and may never recover, if it suits their purpose!

I believe that you and I need to quietly question everything we hear and make our own evaluations and judgments based on our own thinking and experiences. We need to be critical, independent thinkers. Always remember that someone else’s opinion of what you can or can’t do with your life, is just that… their opinion, and it should have no bearing on what you believe or your goals or your aspirations.

So, anytime you hear the words “you can’t do that”, I strongly suggest you doubt what you’re hearing and insist on drawing your own conclusions. Otherwise, you may be doomed to a life of mediocrity.

As you may know, I’ve been in the business of buying and selling real estate since 1993 and I’ve seen up, down and sideways markets. I’ve bought and sold all kinds of properties. Heck, I have 4 under contract as I write this. I and many of my students have made, and continue to make, a killing in Real Estate in spite of the dream stealers.

You can do the same!

I say there has never been a better time to make a fortune in Real Estate than right now, and YOU deserve to be part of it.

You are worthy of good health, wealth and happiness. You’re entitled to have your own definition of success.

Anyone who tells you otherwise simply wants to steal your dream. Don’t let it happen!

I hope you will learn from Anthony’s situation and never let it happen to you. Don’t let the dream stealers get you!

I appreciate you Cam, your integrity it is along time t see some one help others as myself thank you-aaron isadore.

Hi Cam

You are so right and sadly so true I’ve had to deal with, TOXIC PERSONALITIES I call them, I’ve dealt with them my whole life, those that would rather see you suffer than succeed. I am not unsocial or a loner but I like to keep to myself, my thoughts, my hopes, my dreams, anything I am planning because it has been my experience that the ones that I was closest to had done the most damage.

I know a contractor that lives down the street, when i was first getting into RE I would visit and pick his brains but after the visit I felt like I shouldn’t have gone there at all because I was that much more in doubt and confused. I still go and visit him but I don’t talk about RE any more.

I’ve been studying the real estate investment market since you got into it Cam. In fact we had a conversation in 2008, as to how I should proceed when the real estate market had just collapsed. Unfortunately, I had a lot of bad experiences from that collapse, which forced me to do other things. Gladly, all that time I have continued to watch what you and some other successful people have done, and would now say that this time period, with some of the new investment concepts, is the most promising time I have ever seen. Thanks for your encouragement, and I hope this helps others.

Doing something new is scary and takes guts. Your friends and family are for the most part comfortable with what they do and comfortable with how they see you. For you to break out and try something new, while they sit on the couch watching Dancing with the stars, is scary for them. So they will say anything to keep you right where you’re at. Sad and pathetic, but true.

Unfortunately I seem to be married to a “Dream Killer” and I’m sure she doesn’t realize what she is doing.
It was quite difficult to feel at all comfortable when every time I attempt to talk about developing a source of revenue for our use, it goes up against a brick wall. I believe I’m up against deep seated fear that is firmly rooted.
However, I am doing all I’m able, at this time, to work around this and come out showing that success is not something wrong or immoral, which it seems she believes, and become one who is successful while here in the USA and also from Panama once we arrive there in the next couple months.
The story of the Crab Pot has always been an inspiration to me in situations like this: It has been said that crabs in any type container will pull their companions back down into the ‘pot’ if they are climbing up the side to apparently get out. It takes courage to become an escaping “Crab”.

In the 60’s and seventies I used to CRAB for Blues on Ballest Point Pier, Tampa , Fl. We used wicker laundry basket back then , later metal because the buggers would escape when I was not looking. My first thought was crabs have balls. Down and out, way up on a pier in prison, they managed to escape the hot pot. (damn they were tasty with drawn butter)
Life lesson I used throughout my business career. Set your goals, put your he down and drive!!!…All the naysayers will just be a nuisance initially. I used to swing a hammer making 1.75 and hour, went to college at night. Everyone said you will never get out of this hell….28 years IT business, technical side, sales side, operations and then not for profit. Worked with top execs at Microsoft, met Bill Gates, work meetings with Steve Balmer, met many celebs. one of the naysayers who stayed in Retail, later out on disability, hooked on opiates for his “pain” later admitted that I made farther than anyone in our crew.
I know a classy lady who bought one of those Get Rich in RE investing programs in the seventies. Armed with her high school diploma she has networth of over $25M!!! World traveler, dumped her first husband since he was holding her back, she employs 50 people in her Real Estate Services Business.

Hi my Name is Landon & lm interested in getting as much info .as possible on realastate sales would like to know if a property that doesn’t need to be fixed up or repared can increase in value in time or is something I’m missing???LDH

Great article Cam. Like you wrote.. the dream stealer is everywhere, every day. At work, family members, it sucks. I guess you just have to hang with like minded people if you can.

A few years back I had a title company agent who didn’t like my contracts for a double close. I could have been discouraged and given up but persisted because I knew that the docs worked for someone else (so why couldn’t I do it?) Ultimately, she did her job and it went through to closing.

Had I given up, I’d have lost out on a $39,916 profit.

You are so right, Cam! Thanks for the article!
Many of us don’t realize the dream stealers are all around us and most times it’s our own family who is the worst of all. I was raised with the belief that low level pay was all I would ever earn. Mom and Dad always said “get a good education and a great job…hopefully, social security will be enough to retire on.” (YIKES!)
I somehow knew better. ( Most of us have that voice inside!) I went on to run my own businesses. Still…I knew I could do better.
When we are courageous enough to look around and question all we’ve been told…we meet up with people like Cameron!! It’s magical!
The more I learn about what I CAN do… I see the dream stealers just don’t know as much as I thought they did! It’s a tough transformation from low level paying jobs..(.the known, comfortable)…into the scary world of investing!
I am happy to report that dream stealers are a faint voice now. I plan on helping them to buy homes in the future once I’ve made money…and proved it’s not impossible after all!
SUCCESS!! It’s the gift that keeps on giving!!

thank you cameron-for this eye-opening story ,i applaud you with a standing ovation-last year i asked my accountant, who is also a 35 year RE agent with century 21 gold, if she would help me with investing in real estate-to my amazment she asked what for ? -i told her that i would like to work with an agent who would find me deals that i can look at and possibly rehab, and relist to sell. she bluntly told me that i takes large sums of money to put upfront to buy the property-holding costs, and rehab estimates. then she told me i just was not worth it.I REALLY FELT TOTALLY DISCOURAGED. so cameron, i am really going to need your constant help from you ,and your top notch expert staff,to get me to my first deal asap-what do i have to do,to get there-i really need expert top flight advice, and top flight coaching.many thanks in advance-matthew mark winiarski

Mathew, how great it is that you put aside the remarks of that agent as I know the feeling that strikes deep within when a supposed professional dashes your hopes with unkind and demeaning comments. You may be wise beyond your years for doing that. AND it is just a huge thing that you reached out to a good source for the help you need even after those inappropriate remarks.

My hat is off to you. Best regards

They are just called “haters”………thanks for sharing

Thanks for the words of wisdom Cam. Truly you give hope and strength to those who struggle with people like those. Through your blog our skin will be thicker.

Thanks Cam.

I have found that in the NY metropoitain area real estate agents/agencies often were once students in creative real estate and continue to hone their skills in this field. Many have founded their own real estate companies (have met them at a variety of seminars)and these agents (from my limited experience) are not hugely incentivized to help “new arrivals” to this field.

I’ve always been a contrarian. Over the years it just blows me away that 9 to 5 folks can’t look out the box just a little.

Hey Cam!
I’m wearing my wrist band now, got two (in case I lose one) in the mail couple days ago, Navy Blue. Not only does it look cool, I caught a pretty girl checking it out, and I love the idea of being “Healthy, Wealthy and Happy!
Funny, but in my whole life, since I was a kid, anytime anyone ever told me I couldn’t do something, it made me so mad, that I would just go out and do it anyways, just to prove to myself that I could, I guess.
I hate dream stealers, I won’t listen to them, and avoid them at all cost. Basically I tell them to shove it where the sun don’t shine!

Thank You Cam for your words of wisdom as always encouraging.
Dream Stealers are everywhere. No matter what you want to do.It is in the core of oneself
I believe if you believe in yourself call it faith, confidence, trust. When someone has
a burning desire to do something, they will. No one will be able to take it from them
because negativity is shut out. To me it sounds like noise comming from the mouth of a dream stealer.
Be stong and believe you can, No One will be able to take your dream away.

Thank you sooo much for sharing this Cameron. I have that naysayer in my family and I realize I just have to ignor her comments and not even talk about it. She has that uncanny way of making you feel you are being an idiot if you continue doing what you are doing. I just ordered my bracelet and can’t wait to put it on & to look at it a lot! Add that to a recent illness that I was almost recovered from when I got in an accident that has kept me out of school for the last almost 3 months and my dreams were slowly slipping away being reinforced by my dream stealer in the form of “I’m just trying to protect you Mom.”

Also thank you for directing us to the Torah page. I copied all the affirmations on one page and will continue to look at those daily too. I will pick 5 to 7 to concentrate on first from the different sections. I know this will help me get on track quickly.

TODAY IS DAY I TAKE BACK MY DREAMS!! I will look at the bracelet and the affirmations daily and will NEVER let ANYONE steal my dreams again!!

Karen has left the area and has gone & is once more thinking OUTSIDE THE BOX!!

Cam, you are rigth on the nail about these “Dream Killers”. The reason they discourage people around them to improve and get ahead in life is because of FEAR. They feel that if you become more capable and powerful you’ll be better than they are and will dispose of them. What they don’t understand is that when you become more successful and a better person, you usually are more helpful and considerate to others.

Hi Cam, I absolutely, and completely agree with your post, and sentiments shared. I personally do NOT allow negativism to influence my sphere of thinking. I usually tell people “If you can’t encourage me, then don’t discourage me, because it’s not going to work.” God says is His word “I wish above ALL things, that you may PROSPER, and be in good health, even as your souls prosper.” Another part says “I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me.” So if God who is Infinite, gives me the ability to accomplish anything that I aspire towards, why should I allow mankind with their ‘finite’ minds and thought to limit my God-given ability to soar?

Starting this business, I know my WHY, and that is always at the forefront of my mind; so I am committed to do whatever it takes to to accomplish this. Mediocrity is not an option for me, and I will never stop climbing, until I reach the top – by God’s Grace. I would encourage everyone to “Know who you are, what your core values are, and what you are looking achieve/accomplish from embarking on this venture.” Thanks a million Cam, God Bless you all, and see you at the top!!

Thanks for the encouragement Cam! I am learning to be an independent thinker, as you describe. It’s actually tough. I was spoiled with great parents who made a alot of good decisions for me and then as an adult, I had to learn the difference between a good and a bad decision and then learn how to make good ones more often.

I appreciate your reminder that the world tends to steal our dreams.

I’m sorry, but my dreams were stolen 40 years ago.
I never made anything of myself.
And probably never will.

Greg u need to change your consept , don’t count your self out before you start.

Hi Greg
you are not a looser or failure bro, I feel ya ,I im 61 been homeless for 5 yrs. and been jobless since 4/1/15 I spend many hours in the library 2 use their internet to find a better way don’t give up, you are GOOD!!!!!!!

Cam, nice story, was the Realtor an REO or just plain old retail Realtor? I presume the latter because most retail Realtors are all brainwashed with the drivel their local broker beats into their head. If Anthony wants to quit after one person told him no, in Real Estate, then he may want a job working for the Federal Government. In Real Estate you get 99 no answers for every 1 yes answer, so if you don’t deal with rejection well, the Feds have some nice jobs where they never say no.

You’re correct in that it was a plain old Realtor. You summed it up very nicely.

Cam

Cam this is a shame. I am so happy that you have given us your view. Kudo’s to you 100%. I never surround myself with negative people. I feel I can identify them a mile away.

Too bad about Anthony. I have a feeling that she fed on his uncertainty & he was happy to have someone confirm his doubts. Otherwise you would have been able to convince him otherwise.

Through many life experiences, I have come to the realization that when you have to, not only lead people, but drag them to a point, it is better to walk away and simply understand that they just would not fit in with your “family”.

On another, happier note, our parcel came yesterday. I was thrilled & when I saw the bracelet, I offered it to my husband. He put it on and smiled. ” I agree”, he said when he read it. This morning, when he got up, he came into the kitchen, looked down at his wrist & read it again. He gave me a hug & said,” that Cam must be a pretty special guy.”

I Deserve to be Healthy, Wealthy & Happy; that is a Logo I will never forget. It is something to teach our children and grandchildren as well.

I Am and have been a Lic Fl. Real Estate broker for over 25 years and have bought many properties all over the usa and sold to wholesalers and exchangers. Reo’s or any deal is profitable if bought right with enough profit left for the end buyer and all agree and disclosed. Where or when you buy is optional, sucess is sucess.

So Robert, Cam didn’t say that you and all other real estate agents and brokers are dream stealers. He just had an experience with Anthony and it happens that his “dream stealer” is an agent. There are many who are “dream stealers” and they have an array of occupations and positions in life. They come out of the woodwork most times unexpectedly.

Good for you if you are not one of them.

I agree with you, Cam. So many people ready to tell you can’t do something, including my family and friends!

I am tuning it out and going on my merry way. Signed up for your funding help for flips (Fast Cash with Foreclosures) last week and working on some HUD deals right now. Katie bar the door!

Best regards,
Robert

Dream steallers I had a few.
I have a RE licene since 2005, but not used it because I had other things going on in my life, but now I am fired up. I knew that many realtors are taking the wrong route.
They don’t want many competitors on the market, and would do the impossible to cool off anybody. The Real Estate Board is not helping the situation; ethics is not part of the daily practice in the new R.E. market by realtors. Delinquency is growing to the extreme.

I can’t begin to tell you all my bad experiences with them.
But they won’t change me, because I am a Christian, and my faith and ambition is bigger than the Real Estate Market. There are other avenues for people who want to be successful by working hard, the old American way.

Cameron,

I have watched you on line for approximately 3 years. This year I decided to move forward with you because you have the most complete package offer of all others being offered. Having been in the real estate business for 50 years I have seen the ups and downs many times, the last downturn being the worst in my eyes. I hope Anthony reads what I am telling you because the last 6 years I lost 10 Million in properties, which was hard to swallow. However, having gone through that mess, I don’t believe there is anything I cannot accomplish at this time. I’ve done it before, and I will do it again. Now that I am on board with you, and you have my contact information, Anthony can reach me any time if it will help him to move forward. And thank you for hearing me out.

Cam I appreciate you sharing this. Let me put a different spin on it though if I may. I think some blame lies with this Anthony. Someone who would let an ignorant realtor step on him with one stupid comment probably would have failed anyway. This biz is not for the weak, and only 20% of all licensed realtors close 80% of the deals. I’d bet a lot that this agent is not one of them. The point is, the overwhelming MAJORITY of these agents shouldn’t be giving ANY advice, yet we all have to deal with them on a regular basis. I know it’s your nature to believe in and fly the flag for everybody, but this guy is better off in a cubicle. Peace!

Hey Cameron,

Thank you for that message.
I am learning how to protect myself from those dream stealers.
They are everywhere!
When we meet one it should make us more determined to succeed!
So that we become the catalyst that nullifies their negativity and insensitivity.

Thanks Cameron for your Mentorship!

You are right on, Cam! Positive thinking and being selective as to others input is vitally important. Your positive approach coupled with a focused business oversight is what attracted me to your techniques several years ago.

Thanks again;
Jim

Cam,
Right on. I think that it is great, I trust that you have assisted some young person to not allow anyone to steal their dream. I did allow it when I was younger on several occasions. However, now I believe that if someone else has accomplished it, then I know that I can. I also believe that if no one has accomplished and I apply myself by doing my homework and thinking for myself, I will be the one to get it done. I just found out about your program and am gathering the funds to jump in as soon as possible. I have a plan and I intend to work that plan.

Thank you for the message: We all have to believe in our self. If we don’t believe in our self any one can steal your dream. Just like the real estate agent. I will not let anyone steal my dream. Yes we can reach our GOAL!!

I totally agree with you Cameron. I have a former girlfriend who tells me to spend my time working at a job which she says is guaranteed income. I tell her that real estate investing is a full time job and that it is more financially stable than working for someone else. She doesn’t understand that to make a business successful takes time and sometimes years which is her gripe. I’m just now getting a footing now that I have joined my business aspirations with your team. Now I can finally accomplish what has taken me years to get to. I will never tell her ” I told you so to her face ” but she will see and become a believer and soon. Thank you for your support.

CORKY

I have a different take. Some people cannot see opportunity. Too bad for them, just means more for us.

Cam thanks for sharing this important message for everyone not only in real estate but life itself.when I was 19 yrs old everyone including some family told me I could not build my first home that I was to young it won’t work an to their amazement I did build my first home at 19, an I showed them all I was a go getter an wouldn’t take no for a answer ,I took this passion with me through life an many times people say things because they don’t have the courage or drive that you may have,I have went on to pass all my friends an family in seeking out a great life for myself an now days they come to me an ask how I did all things I have accomplished in life.so please don’t ever let anyone not even family decide your future, your are in control of what happens in your life.just find the people that are willing to share there experiences an are willing to teach you what you don’t know, like cam. Thank you all for not letting anyone steal your dreams,an don’t ever I’m mean ever forget to dream big!!! An May god bless you all in your life an your dreams!!!!

I have one friend that supports me and is proud of me for moving forward and staying committed to an investment program that I am in with Peter. I was introduced to you through Peter and I was impressed and excited about the strategies you have to offer. Since I haven’t closed a deal yet!, I will have to wait to raise the funds to get in on what you have to offer. I did approach two of my close buddies, my ex husband, we are still good friends and my current boyfriend. Neither one of them were willing to lend me the money to get started. I even offered to pay them double what I asked to borrow. I was disappointed in their refusal to invest and support me. I am adventurous in this life, I am a risk taker even now at retirement age, and I am much wiser. These buddies of mine even have the money and it would be no hard ship on them to front me the money and they would actually be doubling their money. “Get a real job they said”. But they cannot steal my dream. Investing my knowledge instead of sweat is my new job. I have been working with investors for several months now. I am so enthusiastic about what I am doing and learning and close to getting a deal closed. As soon as I do I am coming along with you Cameron. The knowledge, courage and hootspa that I have gained in crunching the numbers, evaluating the properties on the RE market, comps, actives, solds, and dealing with buyers agents and sellers agents, sellers and investors, I find I really know what I am talking about. Principles are the key guiding forces along with experienced coaches and doing my homework convinces me that the only one that can take away my dream is me and I will not do this to myself. I will succeed and my success will be like the ripples in a pond improving all within the reach of the ripples. Good is all around us and I am tapped into my good now. Thanks for sharing this story. The very best to Anthony, I suggest that he question this person who has set herself up as an authority for the direction he apparently was willing to take. Like successful musicians who initially met with resistance when they wouldn’t get a real job. These folks are now riding on a star.
I am the jet fuel for my own lift off. Momentum carries us through. Thanks, Karen

Hey young people, listen to what you know is right and take some chances, think about your future and don’t depend on someone else to make up your mind. Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today. I’m 67 yrs. old trying to be retired, living on social security and a union retirement plan and also still working on a job and barely making ends meet. I will definitely take advantage of Mr. Dunlap’s offer as soon as I can scrape up the funds. He is offering you a bank roll, it don’t get no better than that, and he is right, DON’T LET ANYONE STEAL YOUR DREAMS.

Cam…. You are awesome!

Just listening to you makes me dream. I can’t understand some
people. Instead of giving incouragement they come out with. You
need to do something different, “different is not my dream” and
I am trying to pursue what is my dream …BIG TIME…..I am a runner
and my body loves it and I will not have it any other way. Investing
is my dream and is alive and I know what I must do and you have
a lot to do with it. Honestly, you are an exception in this business
and I mean it. Love to you and family.

Armida

Cameron,

I have been in the real estate business for 50 years. At the end of 2006 I had 20 properties that I had fixed up ‘to keep’. At the end of 2009 I had lost $10 Million, and my properties were gone. That, my friend, was my wake up call.

Now I am resurrecting my investments to include only properties that I can ‘fix-and-flip’. I don’t want to be a landlord again. There are MULTIPLE opportunities to make money in this business, and I am sorry that a narrow minded agent would lead a party down the wrong path. No wonder your blood was boiling!

Cam,
Everything you say really speaks to having confidence in yourself. Many friends, relatives, even strangers actually want and hope others will fail because they have. This falls under a simple cliché “Those who say it can’t be done should get out of the way of the people doing it.”

Any inside info on finding a realtor that isn’t negative about doing HUD foreclosures. They are telling me it doesn’t work now. I know it works, but I have to have a licensed agent bid for me. I’m wanting to do transactional sales. By wholesale and sell wholesale.

Cam:
I agree with you wholeheartedly, dream stealers come in all shapes and sizes, family, friends and strangers…beware! I have had so many people tell me I “can’t do that” and then when it’s done they’re mystified or want a piece of the action! I have learned to run when I see them coming! LOL 🙂

Cam,

What I have found in my years of doing real estate (rentals, REO rehab work for banks, buying foreclosures, etc.) that about 95% of real estate agents are lazy and don’t want to work for their commissions, they are content to just get by.

When you find an agent that wants to work and knows what they are talking about, hang on to them and don’t let them go. There are good ones out there, you just have to search for them.

Here I am 72 years young, no experience, 33 years in sales with another company and I’m still employed. I have always been interested in real estate but never did anything about it until February this when I went to a seminar and was convinced that I would jump in. I started talking to my friends, business associates, realtors, contractors and other investors and everyone that I talked to about starting in Real estate told me, “It won’t work”, “You’re too old” ” The days of real estate big pay days are gone” ” don’t quite your job” blah blah blah. You know what, I told them all to go to —-. Even my close friends and immediate family was not behind me but I’m persistent and knew I could do this with hard work. Well now it’s July, I got two Passive property bringing in $2500 month. With Cam’s help, now I have access to funds. Cam’s seminar on “BIRD DOGS” has proven to be out of site. In 24 hours I have over 25 people looking for houses in 4 states. Some has contacted me that they already have houses for me to look at and I’m sure before the end of this year, I will be doing this full time.

My point for this story is, “DON’T LISTEN TO NAH SAYERS, LISTEN TO YOUR HEART and do it. Do it with PASSION. If I can do it at my age, you can too.

Wish I had time to read thru all the comments, but I’m to busy working on real estate deals. To all the positive post I haven’t read about making money in real estate, I concur. In short, live your dreams, let the the losers continue to dream without living. Cameron, I’m here in Philadelphia, Pa., and will be aggressively reaching out to you to make some deals happen. Take care, and thanks for the good read.

People who say it can’t be done should get out of the way of people doing it.

Yes, My ex tried everything he could to stop me!!!

Cameron, I really appreciate reading blogs like this one to give me encouragement when I feel down and defeated. I know there are “Dream Killers” all around us that try to hold us down and I stay as far away from them as I can. I face different demons. I have an opportunity to buy a 2 bd 2 ba condo for a great price that is already rented and the renter doesn’t want to move and it does not need to even be rehabbed right now because she I would keep her as a tenant. My problem is this would be my very first deal and I don’t know what to do. I don’t have any credit and I NEED private funding but I don’t know where to go or who to trust. I would gladly split the deal with anyone who would be willing to take me and teach me what to do but I DON’T have cash to pay anyone but I am willing to split the deal. My heart is aching now because I can see this deal is going to be gone if I don’t at least make an offer.I don’t have the means to show them the PROOF OF FUNDS they need to let me in to make my offer. I know deals will come and go but I at least wanted to make an offer but my realtor doesn’t want to do it without that proof of funds letter. But again thanks for the letter of encouragement.

You r soo right,no one believe in my circles, thanks for the belief,Take Care

I have a wife who is not only hostile, but also threatens violence in my pursuit of a real estate investing career, and any other entrepreneurial venture. She loves to say often that I can never be an entrepreneur, and always have to depend on working for others in J.O.B.s. So Cam’s words about the dream killers is so true, and his assurances reassuring. We are in a league or tribe of our own.

Cameron, thank you for sharing Anthony’s story with us I really appreciated. I completely agree with you, there are many negative people around us.Yesterday my neighbor of seven years was trying to scare me telling me that I was going to loose money if I continued with real estate business. The time of making money in real estate is long gone. I am not going any where, I am staying with you/your team I know you can help me because you are in the business and you have the knowledge and experience.. Thank you for your support.

Just starting out and had reo agent this morning tell me how hard this business is and told me all of the houses I where looking at where ones to stay away from because they where manufactured homes and he send me good homes to look out. Every home he sent me was over 100,000 and there was hardly any spread unlike the homes I was looking at which had a very good spread and all where in the 35,000 to 55,000 range

Thanks Cam…I have always had that problem..People are always telling me “you can’t do that” or “you don’t want ro go there” ect..I have been fighting for years and am still fighting. I am getting old and tired and am hoping your program and encouragment will help me get this going. My Son has also had that problem for some time (All he wants to do is compete for minimum wage and live in assisted housing (cheep rent). He is about to receive an isurance settelment and is getting fed up with his situtation. He has had a “dream” for several years. I hope I can live long enough to help him acomplish that dream with your help and the grace of GOD we will sucede. Thanks and keep up the good work Betty

Cameron, Thank You for posting. I was raised by my grandmother who taught me lots of proverbs to live by. She is no longer around, but the values I live by were carved from my youth. Here is one she taught me when I was in the third grade, and I have never forgotten it! I do not know who the original author of this proverb is, but thank you to whoever wrote the original, and thank you my late grandmother for teaching it to me at a very young age:
“He who knows not and knows not he knows not: he is a fool – shun him.
He who knows not and knows he knows not: he is a child – teach him.
He who knows and knows not he knows: he is asleep – wake him.
He who knows and knows he knows: he is wise – follow him.”
With this, I have managed to surround myself with positive people and sift through what I don’t need in my life. Best wishes to everyone.

In 1980 I had a co-worker come to me and asked me for guidance in investing his total saving of $10,000 in real estate. He wanted it to grow to around $3,000,000 within a very short time.

I told him I do not believe it is possible.

I was wrong we past the $3,000,000 mark in less than 3 years. He retired.

Cannot be negative.

Well said Cam…I think especially when we first get started the doubts are there. We must stay the coarse, read daily and kick butt.

Yes, I have had encounters like this a couple of weeks ago. It used to upset me and cause me to panic and rethink what I’m doing. Not anymore though. First, I look at what they are doing to improve their lives. Which is usually nothing. Next, I evaluate if they ever started a business of their own. Most times, they haven’t. They are usually unemployed or they stuck working a job they hate. I just nod my head in agreement while mentally, referring to them as haters (Having Anger Towards Everyone Reaching Success). Then I walk away. It’s been tough ridding myself of negative people but, as a business owner it’s something I have to do if I want to be successful. Now, I surround myself with business owners and successful people. Trust me, the negative will be there touting how they were instrumental in helping you attain success.

Hello,
I have read the comments about “dream stealers” and resonance myself with a few scenerios of what each one is going through. I had let my love for RE faddddde away
and in the process have experienced much loss in my finacial life…
But now I am starting to DREAM again and will always thank these “dream stealers”. Because of them I will regard all my like-minded as guides and inspirations, and will regard all my non-believers as motivations for me to follow through what is inspired upon me…and convert them into a believer. Who knows, they might see the benefits of thinking outside the box themselves…
Cheers!
Have great MOMENTS in your day!

Hi Cam

Im new to the flipping game, and making my fair share of ‘mistakes’ – or perhaps better called ‘learning points’.

Its great to know that others also become frustrated, as I sometimes do, but success is being on the journey and not stopping at each minor obstacle. Each little triumph is a destination in itself, followed by another little journey.

Thanks for being my guide and routemaster.

That agent is way off.. it is a wonderful way to make money only bad thing is dealing with some of the banks like if it’s a short sale it can be so stressful I got a short sale now going on for over a year and Wells Fargo is the bank they are the worst to work with but I think that agents problem is you don’t make a whole lot of commission on short sales because it’s such a little amount also a lot of agents have no idea how about to go about doing it and think it’s too much like work 2 get involved with short sales and HUD repos

Sorry to hear that story. I was a real estate investor before I became a realtor. I can assure you with 80% certainty that realtors only know what is required by law. That being said, the law requires you to know the contracts, consumers protections laws, professional regulation laws and you have to learn how to navigate the MLS. Outside if those perimeters, please don’t expect much more. Most of them think than if they don’t know about other issues related to real estate, it’s wrong. But yes for most of them is power and authority. The laws makes it very clear it’s not about the realtor, it’s about the consumer. You are required to put the consumer’s interest before the realtor’s own interest so they are doing a disservice to their clients to the industry and to themselves

This is the first time I’ve been exposed to your blog. I have been looking at doing something outside the “norm” i.e. real estate and internet marketing for awhile. It is very easy to get discouraged with all the fraudsters stealing your dreams and your so called friends and family fighting you every step of the way. I feel like I run a one man show in my life. This blog appearing in my inbox was a breath of fresh air that at least I’m not the only one in this situation. I will continue to see what Cam has to offer and following his blog.

What I’ve learned over the years is that, whatever the subject is, most people that do not know what they are talking about will, 99.9% of the time, will tell you a load of BS because they cannot admit that they just don’t know. Sorry to be such a cynic, but to me, “Most everything after Hello is a lie”.

Dear Cameron

I have an inteesting assignment for you. How can you teach an over 60 who has a dream to be A REALTOR but has very little pension and as a long term Carer no capital availale to invest but is willing to learn as my background is secretarial. My secretarial skills give me the edge in terms of administrative requirements, searches and researches. Is there ever an opportunity available to start anything on realtor planet, a commission basis so that I can build up my capital or be thrown back into the jungle of unfulfilled dreams? How about that? What would you say to me? How can I get round it to make it happen? How do you rate my dilema? Zero! I await your wisdom!

If your dream is to be a Realtor I would suggest you enroll in the licensing class and get your license. The cost to do that is reasonable and then you can work on a commission only basis as an agent under a local broker.

What you’re describing sounds very doable and your background, which I have to believe makes you detail oriented, will be an asset to you.

You know what you want… go after it!

Realtors are looked upon as experts so being afraid about what he was told was understandable. As Earl Nightingale said conformity is mankind’s greatest problem. It’s hard starting something new……….most people don’t understand. So much for that.

I call these MJ moments, and everyone has them! MJ is Michael Jordan. He was not selected for his high school basketball team. The coach plain told MJ when he asked what he needed to do to make the team basically was that he did not believe Micheal Jordan had what it took to succeed. Imagine that. I tell my kids to look for MJ moments when somebody tells you you can’t or acts like you can’t, and then you will know deep down you are on the road to success because your dream is real, and it is big.

My son had an MJ moment in band at school and was going to lose a solo! (Not only was my son having an MJ moment, he only wants to wear J’s — what my son calls Michael Jordan’s shoes.) Long story short, if you are going to wear the shoes, Son, you have to live up to the name. Son got the part back, and later the judges grading the band specifically made comments about the beautiful solo!

When MJ made it to the Hall of Fame, one of his invited guests was the “successful businessman” who had what it took back in high school and was in the spot MJ tried out for. It was truly an MJ moment come full circle!

Thanks Cam. Great article.

hi, camron. I believe in you and what you say. period.

Thanks Cam! You are a true inspiration! ” We will not be told we can’t do this. Thank you for the reminder that you need to surround yourself with positive, successful people and ignore the negative ones. Bless you, have a great day!

Good Morning Cam…
recently, a family member shared with me, “No one is going to ‘Steal My Dream’!” I believed her. She was authentic. She was emphatic and… a bit afraid… that someone would actually have that position of power and authority, over her. Yikes!
I am reminded of the ‘pot full of crabs principle’. Some where within that pot full of crabs, you will find an adventurous-dreamer, that desires to live beyond the confines of ‘the-pot’. 🙂
Perhaps, unknown to him, were so very many future ‘crabby-patties’, that were perseverant in physically discouraging the ‘dreamer’ from his own ‘great-escape’. Once the ‘dream-stealers’ spot an attempt of a ‘great-escape’, they are right there to prove to ‘enforce’ their position upon ‘the-dreamer’. And, then, ‘the-dreamer’ is pulled down, back into, the rank-and-file of the ‘status-quo’ of the ‘non-dreamers’.
I wonder what’s wosre… to never allow yourself to be a ‘dreamer’ or… or to have had ‘your-dream-stolen’… or… to have become a ‘dream-stealer’, yourself?!
I’m with Martin Luther King Jr… “I have a Dream!”

Cam,
Are you sure that young man wasn’t talking to my ex-wife?
I’m the type of person that always believed that there is money to be made in the real estate world.
The other added bonus is don’t tell me that I can’t do it. I’ll just go ahead and do it just to prove them wrong. ….

Thank you. Thank you for sharing those feelings. It is right on time for me and it is what is happening out there. You are again saying the things I’m listening for… (Cameron, SOS???)

Hello Cam,
I am a heating and cooling contractor and I have always wanted to invest in RE for many years. In 2014, I finally bought my first investment property in Detroit, MI. (On the Eastside of the City). I had numerous “dream stealers” inside and outside of my family who told me “there isn’t any money in RE right now. Ad why are you buying houses on the Eastside of Detroit?” For a second I “heard” what they said but I didn’t “listen” to what they were saying. Fast forward to 2019 and I own 12 houses. 10 are rentals. One I am rehabbing and should make about $80,000 profit. And the other one will be turned into a corporate rental. I love the passive income that I am making right now. I am at about $6.23 per hour in passive income. That gives me about $4,500 every month outside of any other money that I’m making. Right now the game I’m playing with myself is to get that $6.23 up to $9.45 (minimum wage in Michigan) so I can tell my “dream stealers” that is what I make every hour of the day everyday all year long. Usually when I hear a “dream stealer” tell me I can’t do some thing I silent say “no, YOU can’t do this or that.” Cam, I truly appreciate you sharing this today. I have been doing the training from your program I got from you in Ocala back in April. I am learning so much to make me become a much better RE investor. Thanks again and I am sure I will see you soon.

Dear Cam,
Thanks for your continued support, inspiration, and motivation.
It all depends upon the listener’s ears, trust, confidence, and a positive attitude can shape one’s determination. It is not always easy though to build these soft skills. It takes time and hard work. Most important aspect is gaining the right knowledge that can help guide all in the right path.
Thanks for your words of wisdom and encouragements.

Cameron,
In California, when you get pulled over in your car, the police ask to see your real estate license. Because not everyone in California has a drivers license.
I was one of them licensed real estate people for well over 30 years. Was licensed in three states, owned private and franchised offices, had huge staffs…the whole thing. I don’t do that any more.
What I’ve recognized lately is that the normal way of selling real estate is outdated… licensed real estate people recognize that and see themselves and their industry quickly fading away and being replaced by the internet….just like travel agents, car dealers, etc.
They still have massive influence on politicians through their PAC and will not go down without a fight. To them real estate is a comfy, six-percent world and they like it that way.

I agree with every word Cam! I’m sidestepping those naysayers and I’ll see you at the Summit in Charlotte!!

It is true cam sometimes every person around you is a dream killer it can be very taxing on my energy and excitement in real estate when this happens I just laugh at them in love not in a bad way because I know when the money starts rolling in those dreams killers will start looking up to me for advice I know the real estate field and your program is a game-changer I have been a real estate agent and have flipped two houses in my lifetime I don’t use the traditional ways of thinking about real estate I am a creative thinker because I have been an agent and I know what an agent sees. Thank you, Cam, for trying to save the lost and uneducated

Good read. Someone told me when I was about 20 to never let anyone steal your dreams. This was a good reminder. I’m just hopping into real estate and I have started building some momentum. I can feel my dreams coming true! Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi Cam, thanks for the blog on Dream Stealers. The question we need to ask each real estate agent/broker is “Have you personally bought and sold your own property?” You find out real fast who is an investor and who is an employee. 1996, I met and had gone to seminars of Robert Kioysaki, he teaches you this. You teach this. We have two real teachers of financial literacy and experience saying the same thing. Any man or woman who is an employee, whether in real estate or financial advisor, is covering their tracks to get the commission. Their commission could be endless if they were real real estate investor agent/broker as they would have been through the ups and downs of the past 13 years with the 2007 derivatives collapse. History repeats itself. We are there again and it is HUGE. People who are in trouble financially are financially illiterate as they expect others to do their finances. It ain’t going to happen. You, the real you, has to be the man or woman in charge of your financial destiny. Get Rich Dad Poor Dad book to comprehend this and why Cameron is doing so much teaching. Both these men teach for you to learn. Please do not throw it away for a non-investor stealing your dream. WonderAnn

Hi Cam, I am brand new member enrolled in your up coming wholesaling class. I don’t have a website as yet. I am extremely excited to be attending the training. My reason for getting into real estate investing is so much bigger than me. My goal is to change my financial situation so I can change the situation facing my son and I.
I thank you for the opportunity to learn.
My grandma always said ” Never say you can’t do something if you never even tried. Winners never quit and quitters never win.”
I have to win. it is a MUST for me. I sure am gonna try and no one is going to steal my dreams.

I have haters tell me all the time, “You can’t do that”, or “you’re wasting your time.” Forget them. I’m ready to start a new chapter in my life
where I won’t have to worry about money ever again. I deserve better
and now I’m going to get it.

Hi Cam,

First and Foremost thank you and the team for all the wisdom, knowledge and insight you are making available to your students.

I appreciate everything you are doing.

In terms of dream stealers there are many for another reason or another are participants in the crabs in a barrel syndrome never wanting to see anyone advance….. especially above them.

I never let anyone stop me from pursuing my dreams….lol

Albert Einstein put it succinctly…..”The Intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift”

Cameron!
I’ve been investigating/studying and investing in my Real Estate Investing education for longer than I care to mention. You are the most genuinely sincere person who is willing to actually help people with their dreams and desires.

It is refreshing to know that it’s not “all about the money” with you. I say this because I have invested in other systems that are complicated and there is a cost to everything going forward.

Hi Cam

I agree with your comments wholeheartedly, never let anyone steal your dreams.

Hey Cam-The dream stealers around the U.S.(my experience) are just that. They haven’t achieved themselves yet, so they act as an authority just for ego’s sake. It’s sad really… but also why couldn’t the young man not see through that? I have experienced similar remarks in my 68 years & yet if you have a belief in yourself, nothing should get in your way.
I have over achieved, reinventing myself numerous times because my parents instilled that in me early in life. Maybe he hasn’t had the support I had. Hopefully he’ll find a mentor to overcome his fear. ALL THE BEST-Dave Jewett-Loyal advocate of 1 Day Flip & YOU Cameron!

Hi Cam I also Brand new in your Company even though I’ve been wanting to this for Years, thank you for the word of encouragement I needed it , you an Awesome Individual for caring so much about us, may God keep Blessing your family and Business .

Hi Cam!
I’m retired in Chicago IL on a fixed income! The opportunity in foreclosures is REAL! I joined the Cam Fam with no regrets! My training thru REWN is outstanding! How can someone steal your dream? Even tho the LLC process takes forever in IL, deals are everywhere! 2 flat brick blocks away waiting to be snagged! Just today! I’ll have to use a friends LLC to close this one! Thanks CCC!

Cam ive known from your first email that it was possible for me to make it investing in real estate. As you already know my problems arent in what you teach me its my ability to finance myself, which i have just about solved any problems i have and i should be able to make my first deal soon. thanks for all your help and words of encouragement.
thanks scott

Yes, I have Dream Stealers in my life too!! My Family! I DO NOT understand why they do it, but when I told them I was do this, all I got was, “This is a scam” and “well, I hope you can make it but I don’t know”. Like they have no Faith In me. I’m 52 yrs old!!! I’m not an idiot! I’ve done my due diligence, I’ve done my research.
I just wish my own family had Faith in me and encouraged me but you know what? It just makes me more motivated! I can’t wait to stick that first check right in their faces!!!

I am married to one, and hear her with deaf ears.

I just had something similar to this happen to me this past Saturday, and I heard what she had to say.

This past year has been very difficult for me health wise. Now I’m ready to give my all, and I get this advice from a realtor. I’ll be be honest, I did get discouraged. But then, I thought about Cameron Dunlap and how he has been successfully doing real estate for several years. Then, I thought to myself, if I give up now, I’ll never know what could be.

Finally, I sent her an email thanking her for advice.

Hi Cam! Jim Parker here in Colorado Do you know anyone who will make private money loans to owner occupants who are suddenly in foreclosure after the Covid moratorium ended? I have encountered four cases here that need help. One has a $325,000 loan on a property that comps out at a value of $985,000. Another valued at 685,000 has a loan balance of $368.000. Another has a balance in the $225,000 range with an indicated value in excess of $600,000. There are many of these with the oldest loan made in 2004. Others say they only lend on non-owner occupied props!

We only fund when you are buying and reselling, so we’re also not an option.

I suggest you buy the houses and resell for a profit. The seller in the cases you referred to would likely end up with cash in hand at the closing depending on condition, and using my forula. I gather the owners want to stay but getting a (large) sum of cash sure beats losing the house, all their equity and having their credit wrecked – which is coming if they don’t act quickly.

Cam

Hi cam! I’m glad I don’t have those kind of problems. I don’t listen to what people have to say I follow my dream. (why) Because I do this for my family for my kids right now I’m a truck driver and as soon as I get home I spend two to three hours learning the system hopefully by April or May I could make my first deal hopefully sooner I’m trying to get my LLC and establish my company thanks for the encouraging words I really appreciate it I’ve never been a follower or let anybody tell me what I can’t do.

Thanks, Cam! I appreciate you and your insight. I am brand new to real estate investing, and, come across Dream Stealers often. Your blogs continue to help me refocus and stay on course. Thanks, again!
